Family Education and Support

Resources for families and friends to support their loved ones and themselves.

A Trusted Resource for Mental Health Information

We know that mental health challenges don’t just affect individuals—they impact entire families.  That’s why we offer services for the families and friends who walk alongside a loved one experiencing a mental health and/or substance use disorder.

Family Support That Makes a Difference

Our Family Education and Support Services include:

  • One-on-one support:  Talk to one of our family support staff about your unique needs. We’ll work with you to help develop an individualized plan to address both immediate and ongoing concerns.
  • Coping Strategies: Learn how to support your loved one while maintaining your own well-being.
  • Community Referrals: Access additional resources and services tailored to your family’s needs.
  • Educational Resources: Gain a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and recovery processes.

Join our Family-to-Family Educational Program

Using a nationally recognized curriculum in collaboration with NAMI Nebraska, our free, eight-week, Family-to-Family educational program is designed for families, significant others and close friends of people with mental health and substance use challenges.

Participants learn about mental illnesses and substance use disorders, medication strategies and side effects, communication, crisis and relapse strategies and self-care, and gain strength from learning and sharing with others who are traveling a similar road.

Those attending also leave with practical tools to utilize going forward, including a crisis plan to work through the most intense periods, a relapse prevention plan, self-care strategies, and an advocacy plan to help find and receive the most appropriate services.

Community Alliance’s family education and support services, and the Family-to-Family program, are provided by trained professionals and family members who have been there.
