People with mental illness enrich our lives. This has been the message conveyed at Breaking the Silence for years, with acclaimed authors, athletes, singers, actors and others joining us to share their stories, increasing awareness about the importance of mental health.

On October 10, 2024, at the Holland Performing Arts Center, Community Alliance will welcome Emmy Award-winning meteorologist and mental health advocate Ginger Zee as this year’s Breaking the Silence speaker.

As the first female chief meteorologist at a major news network and cast member of “Good Morning America” on ABC News, Zee has covered major weather events from Hurricane Katrina to major wildfires and tornadoes across the United States.

Zee is a New York Times best-selling author of memoirs “A Little Closer to Home” and “Natural Disaster: I Cover Them, I Am One.” Her books document her own personal mental health journey, where she opens up about her lifelong battle with depression. Zee struggled with significant mental health issues that went undiagnosed until she entered inpatient therapy and began traveling — slowly but surely — her path to recovery.

Beyond a successful television career lies a resilient person who is using her message of healing and hope to inspire audiences across the country by sharing her poignant story of weathering the storms of life.

Now in its 28th year, Breaking the Silence is one of the largest educational efforts of its kind in Nebraska and the Midwest. We hope you’ll save the date and join us on October 10 for Ginger Zee’s inspiring message. Purchase your tickets today!
